Lila was born with tricuspid atresia, a congenital heart defect in which the tricuspid valve, between the right atrium and right ventricle, fails to develop.
Tricuspid atresia cannot be "corrected", but a series of three surgeries can optimize her circulation:
Blalock-Taussig Shunt: performed May 2004, two days after birth.
Bidirectional Glenn: performed October 2004.
Fontan Procedure: performed October 16, 2008
She is being followed by pediatric cardiologist Dr. Daniel Miga at the Children's Heart Center at Strong. Her surgeon is Dr. George Alfieris.
