Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. In November, Mama was diagnosed with a late-stage undifferentiated carcinoma, with the primary site not identified but likely pancreas. She was referred for hospice after seeing the oncologist. On Dec. 26, she became weak enough that she was no longer able to walk. She was admitted to St. Catherine's where she is receiving nursing care supervised by hospice. She is completely bed-bound and has trouble communicating much of the time. She can often answer yes or no and occasionally responds appropriately in complete sentences. She has good days and bad days. Good days she has times when she is alert and able to interact a little. Her responses, verbally and physically, are generally slow. The major goal is to keep her as comfortable as possible. We are working to optimize her pain medication. If you happen to visit and she is in pain, please let her nurse know. Most of the time, she needs help to eat and drink. Feel free to offer fluids if you visit. Cranberry juice (available in the patient fridge in the dining room) mixed with 7-up or vitamin water is her preference. We will try to keep this site updated with significant changes.
