Lee Ann has gone into liver failure. She was diagnosed years ago with non alcoholic fatty liver and after taking certain cancer drugs the liver didn't handle it well and they were toxic to the liver. She was monitored bi-yearly. Things were stable but this December 2018 she began noticing low energy and her belly feeling fuller. In January we found out she had fluid filling up in her abdomen and needed it drained. At that point we began working with her liver doctor as it appeared this has progressed into liver cirrhosis. There is no treatment except a liver transplant. Our only goal at this point is to control her symptoms because her liver is now failing. There is a score doctors watch to measure how advanced the failure is. This is the MELD score, it starts at 6 and goes up. The higher the number the worse a person is feeling and worse the body is doing. Lee Ann is currently around 23, back in March she was 15. She has been seen weekly for fluid drainage off her abdomen and bi-weekly with her liver doctor.

On June 18th, Lee Ann will begin the liver transplant workup in hopes that she is a candidate for transplant. This is a full week of testing that will be grueling. Once we learn the results we will keep you all updated. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words of support. It is greatly appreciated.
