Leah has been sick on and off for this last year. The latest thing was diagnosed with pneumonia on 4/28/17. This winter has been rough on Leah and her health. She has had influenza b, double ear infection, colds and then pneumonia. Saturday, 4/29/17, she woke up in a lot of pain. She said her left side, lower rib section, hurt. If she moved or coughed, she would scream in pain. I got dressed, put clothes on her, and we were on our way to the Emergency Room. Once we got there, they gave her a nebulizer. They drew blood and took x-rays of her chest. The doctor came into our room with a social worker and said that he did not have good news for me. Based on the blood work, he determined that it looked like Leah had Leukemia. This is the hardest news I have ever had to process.!!! This just can't be happening!!! Not my beautiful 4 year old. I had to leave the room and just cry.... and cry.... and cry. I called my husband Eric and had to tell him over the phone. I then called my mom to tell her and have her pick up our 2 year old.

Gold Cross Ambulance took us to Rochester to get further testing done on Leah. That afternoon they took further blood work to verify Mankato's blood work. Saturday evening the doctor came in and said that Leah did in fact have Leukemia. He said that she would be transferred to the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team.  We met with Dr. Kahn on Sunday. She verified again that Leah does have Leukemia, but she was waiting on the culture to come back to get more answers. She said that it looks like the culture wouldn't come back until Monday. She did say due to Leah's counts being down, the fevers she has had, it is likely she will be here for 3 - 4 weeks. We are very thankful and grateful that we got a Ronald McDonald room. It is right by the hospital. This has all been very overwhelming!

Today is Monday. It has been a long night for me. Leah slept very good, thanks to the pain meds. We are now waiting to find out when she will go in surgery. I will update this as I find out more information. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
