Drew and I took Layton to Texas Women's Pediatric ER on June 17, he was very lethargic, refused food, and had severe diarrhea. We were worried about him becoming dehydrated and his pediatricians office wanted us to get him on IV fluids asap. Lily was exposed to Shigella and unfortunately Layton caught it as well. After spending a few days in the Pediatric Unit we were informed Layton has Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. The staff at Texas Women's had him transported via ambulance to Texas Children's On Wednesday June 21. Layton will need dialysis and blood transfusions to help treat his condition. At this point we are not sure how long this process will be. We have had a few bumps in the road the past three days. They initiated the dialysis machines and unfortunately the catheter that he has was not functioning properly so he has not received a full dialysis treatment yet. As a result of the lack of treatments he has had more complications come up. They are currently placing a new catheter and we are praying that the new placement will work wonderfully and we can start making some progress in his recovery. We would appreciate all of the prayers we can get for Layton, he is such a tough little guy. We know God can move mountains and we have faith that he will get Layton back to himself in no time!
