It has been 7 years today (Oct 22, 2014) since Layne became critically ill and almost lost his life due to a long struggle with alcohol. He has fought hard to maintain his health and has committed himself to remain sober. Despite doing amazingly well he was told by doctors that he would still need a new liver. Quite unexpectedly (we never anticipated him to be a qualified candidate just yet) he got a call on Oct. 16 saying there was a possibility that a compatible liver was available for him. Not mentally prepared, his journey began with the surprise wake up call at 2:45am on Sunday, Oct. 17 that his gift had arrived…and we as a family are just so proud of Layne and the commitment he has made to restore his health not only for his sake but for the benefit of his family.
