Layla Lynn Bowers entered the world on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 4:58 p.m., at 26 + 5 weeks gestation. She weighed 1 lb 12 oz and was 13 3/4 inches long. Her mommy, Kelsey, experienced a premature rupture of the membrane (PROM) late in the evening on December 10th and was transferred to the U of I hospital for care on December 11th, her 30th birthday.
Kelsey remained under constant monitoring at the U of I with a goal of keeping her pregnant for 9 more weeks until February 11th, when the baby would reach 34 weeks gestation. Baby Layla stayed put for 11 days before making her grand entrance. The goal date for Layla's discharge from the NICU is her original due date, March 24th, 2019.
