On Sunday, October 2nd, after a routine morning of Mass and breakfast with friends from church, Al and LaVonne returned home. Just before pulling in completely, LaVonne mentioned she had three pieces of mail she wanted to drop off, so Al prepared to pull out from the driveway. At the same time, LaVonne took in a large gulp of air, then slumped over with no indication of breathing. Al had the presence of mind to take LaVonne directly to the ER at Fairview Southdale which took Al about 5 minutes to get to. Once in the ER, the team administered CPR for seven to eight minutes before they could get a pulse.
It is understood that LaVonne experienced sudden cardiac arrest, also known as ventricular fibrillation (v-fib).
