Laurie Magee

This is about our sister Laurie's struggle with Cancer. It started the beginning of April, 5 months ago. Laurie went to the Doctor to check a pain in her chest that would not subside from a weight lifting exercise. If you've ever dealt with a cancer diagnosis and then Cancer Care, you know the next few weeks were a whirl wind of tests and information sessions. It's stage 4 lung cancer. Our Family had to quickly break free of fear and denial, some of us are better at that than others......Laurie needs us, our support, our love and strength. On June 8th Laurie went under the Gamma Knife for brain lesions. June 21st was her last radiation treatment, of three weeks worth on a lung tumor.  Her wonderful significant other Ron, forgot to look out for himself and fell down a step on May 26th, got surgery for a quadricep rupture  and to this day is our Hero on crutches. At this point, Laurie's focus is on pain management. She made the decision to NOT have chemo therapy, she had that stance from the beginning.  I've been calling her my "soft tough Lore". She is one of the strongest people I know. All her life she's been a no games, direct, to the point kinda girl. And, more so, as necessary, doing her job as psychiatric nurse for most of her adult life. Does she break down? Yes, when she considers her son Tyrone's well-being. We write this to reach out, to share with those who care.
