This page has been set-up for the family and friends of Laurel Lambert. It's a place for updates on her status to be shared, for us to schedule visits, and respond to needs that may arise.

Here is a little info on what happened:

In February, following undiagnosed A Fib, which formed a clot in her heart, Laurel had a stroke. At the hospital, she was given a blood thinner (standard procedure). Unfortunately,  the blood thinner caused a brain hemorrhage (it's rare, but this can happen). To help relieve the pressure on the brain, she was placed into a medically induced coma, she has also had a tracheostomy which connects to a ventilator.

Laurel is currently coming out of the coma and is out of critical care, but she has been very sick following other blood clots hitting other organs.

The goal at the moment is for the blood from the hemorrhage to naturally, and super slowly, get absorbed back into her body. It will cause minimal damage. Then we can see what she needs for stroke recovery. Her language and memory centers weren't affected and she has a good chance at a nice life after all this. But the problem is her heart. No doctor wants to give her another blood thinner, which is the chief method for treating A Fib and preventing other clots. We will have to take this one step at a time.

Your are encouraged to visit Laurel. In the "Planner" section, you can schedule a time to visit so that she has a regular flow of friendly faces to see. Read the "Journal" section for updates, and leave notes for Laurel in the "Guestbook" section.
