Thursday, January 24th--Laura Moore was diagnosed with a heart defect called Mitral Valve Prolapse. After further examination last week, it was determined that it was level 4, with severe regurgitation, meaning she needed urgent (not emergency, this is different!) surgery. She was scheduled to have it repaired this morning (January 24th) at 8 am, at Abbott. After almost 9 hours of surgery, they were able to repair the valve. This is good news---she  won't need another surgery! The unexpected news was, the surgery was much more involved than originally thought. It turns out, her heart went into arrest 3 times during the surgery. Meaning they had to restart her heart 3 times.  Because of the stress her heart endured, her right ventricle has not yet restarted on its own. They went back in to surgery to put in a device called ProTek Duo to pump her right ventricle. She also had be intubated to help with her  breathing, as she is heavily sedated. The Doctor's said due to Laura's good health and age, the ventricle should wake up in a few days to a couple of weeks. Obviously, we'd like it to be sooner rather than later.

She will be in the ICU until the right ventricle starts pumping on its own. She then will be able to get off the ventilator. The doctor has assured Jay this is the safest way to make a full recovery. The heart will come back in its own time.

Laura has an army of people praying for her and The Moores want to thank you all for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. Please send The Moore family messages through this site. They are so much appreciated and valued.
