David Vance Laughing at Cancer

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
I was born a Thornton Heights Commando. I am both an engineer and a folk artist. Married to a Hottie, I am lucky to have shared so many adventures with Nancy - thanks Steve Serwo! Recently I developed squamous cell carcinoma of the buccal mucosa spreading into the retromolar trigone area. It means I have cancer in the cheek. My doctors are going to stab, burn and poison my cancer but I choose to kill it with humor.  We've decided to use humor as our primary means of defense.

We relocated to North Carolina 8 years ago and settled in Cary the "Controlled Area for Relocated Yankees". We have been all 4 types of Yankees since we moved here. First you have the Yankees that visit. Second you have the Damn Yankees that move south and stay. Third you have the G## Damn Yankees that move down and bring another one with them. Last you have the Blessed Yankee that moves down but ships two home! HA-HA! At least I am not a Jets or Ravens fan.

Next week I am scheduled for 6-8 hours of surgery so I'm actively soliciting hugs, jokes and prayers.
