Larry Meifu

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Larry Meifu. We are using this wonderful site to help keep all of his friends and family updated in one place. We truly appreciate your support with words of love and encouragement for Larry, and we hope you will visit often to share your thoughts with him.

On May 7th while vacationing in Maui, Larry was returning to his Airbnb rental from a day at the beach, when he blacked out and fell. He was rushed to the closest Emergency Room 30 minutes away, and after observation, he was admitted into the hospital. Tests revealed that Larry has a very serious issue where his white blood cell count is extremely high causing a life-threatening condition. The hospital where he was taken was not equipped with the doctors or equipment to properly treat him, so plans were made to have a medical aircraft fly him from Maui to Oahu for further evaluation and to be treated.  He was told that if they didn't transfer him to the hospital on Oahu, he might not survive the weekend. 

Larry was transferred overnight to Straub Hospital in Honolulu where they continued to run tests to determine what is happening. Tests showed that Larry has Acute Leukemia, and given his condition and age, the doctors are giving him a 20% chance of survival. A bone marrow biopsy will be done on Monday, May10th, followed by chemotherapy in an effort to improve Larry's condition. At this time, he is scheduled to be in the hospital on Oahu for three weeks.

I will periodically update this page with journal entries sharing the latest information regarding Larry's condition. We hope that you will take a few minutes out of your day to send Larry messages of encouragement. I know he would enjoy that, especially since he is in a medical facility that is far from home. We encourage you to send messages directly to him by clicking the heart shape on the menu bar where it says, "Well Wishes." You can also let Larry know you care by clicking on "Heart" or "Comment" at the bottom of each journal post.
