The Short Story A year ago last July, due to an unrevealed urinary tract infection(UTI) that wore her down to total exhaustion, Lalla, then 93, was admitted to the Ozark Health Center. She was then transferred to rehabilitation wing of Ozark Health Nursing. After complaining of pain it was discovered she had a pulmonary embolism and aneurysms. She chose not to take life extending drugs and was placed on Hospice. Her efforts to build back strength so she could go home were thwarted with a second UTI that required room confinement for over 3 weeks. During that time she lost strength and hope. It was decided she deserved her one wish in the world, so on October 19, 2017, for one more time she traveled her beloved “My Road Home” (title of her first book). She passes her days now at home watching her fireplace, loving her dogs and cat, working on her new book and holding the hands of friends and family. Her smile continues to be like the sun rising. Your messages make it come out often. Since Lalla, now 94, has passed all expectations on her longevity at home, and we have exceeded funds available for her care, and due to substantial medical bills yet to be paid, we have started a GoFundMe account. All support will be greatly appreciated.
