On Thursday, August 11th, Kyla experienced impaired movement on her right side so she and Dean went to the ER at St. Mary's in Rochester. Over the next few days they discovered that Kyla had a tumor on her brain on the top of her head and another tumor along her jaw line. These tumors are derived from the breast cancer Kyla battled five years ago.
The tumors are pressing on nerves causing immobility of Kyla's right arm, right leg, and eye lid. She has feeling and some movement, however at this moment she can not move her arm without help and can't stand on her leg. The tumor is also effecting the spoken language center of the brain. Kyla has no impairment in understanding or thinking but sometimes has difficulty getting the words she wants to come out of her mouth. While Kyla continues to have pain from the Trigeminal Nueraligia that started after she had a tumor removed from her jaw in June 2015, she is not having other pain. The good news is that the pain is well controlled most of the time, and we thank God for that. The pain does increase when Kyla has to talk a lot.
The cancer has advanced past the point where treatment can cure it. Rather than choosing invasive medical treatments that have little hope for success, Kyla and Dean are trusting in God to perform his miracle. They ask that you join in prayer believing that she will be healed.
Kyla was able to get home on Tuesday and is loving being at home where there are less interruptions, more time to rest, and birds to watch.
While Kyla would love to see each and every one of you, and to hug you, share her love with you, and pray with you in person, it is difficult. Kyla is loved by so many and loves so many of you that it is just way too overwhelming to see and talk to all of you right now. Our hope, is that you can share your love through this site by leaving messages that Kyla can read. If you really want to visit, please call or text Dean and schedule a time. One to two visitors a day is about all she can handle before the pain starts to increase. For the next week or so, she's focusing on family.
Everyone always asks, "What can we do?" Right now there is nothing physical that we need. Our thought is that if we need a grocery run, someone to sit with Kyla, or anything else we'll ask. What we really need, is the overwhelming power of prayer. Kyla is asking for prayers of healing, specifically that she can find the words that she needs and that her strength and mobility are restored to her right arm and leg. Pray also that the cancer is removed from her body.
Please leave Kyla and Dean encouraging messages here. If you want to mail a card, their address is 325 55th Street NE, Lot 32, Rochester, MN 55906.
As it is difficult to contact everyone, please share this site with others to keep them informed. We'll keep you updated.
