I hope by sharing my journey you will think about being a living donor or at least get you talking about it! This is my journey to a kidney transplant! Thank you so much for taking the time to sign my guestbook or post a message to me! This has been a 16 year journey! One I pray is over soon over! My journey started as I said 16 years ago with my diagnosis was IGA nephropathy was caused by strep throat! When I first found out they said it would be dialysis when they failed for rest of my life! So after yearly visits for 5 years I put it on the back burner! When I met my husband Jeff he said lets go back and see if something had changed! He was right! I could get a transplant! We were so excited! So another couple years went by we got married and settled into life! Then all of sudden my legs and hands were numb! Went to the doc and my kidney numbers were off the charts! I was in kidney failure! So after a few treatments of other things that didn't work. They said it was time for a transplant evaluation! During the evaluation they said I could either start dialysis or wait to get sicker! I was sick already! My creatine was already 8.3. Normal is below 1! So Monday May 3 2010 I started dialysis! I said dialysis would not own me! I would own it! I did! For 2 1/2 years I drove 3 days a week to Fairmont to do dialysis at the hospital! I would sit for 4 hrs, 3 days a week! That was no way to live! So when I finally felt well enough again I started working again! I was lucky to find a job that would work around my dialysis schedule and all my doctors appts! Juba's Supervaule is my sanity! LOL! I work with some awesome people who encourage me everyday! For that I will always be great full! 2 years ago I started home peritoneal dialysis! That has been the best thing of all this so far! I feel better, but I am still tired a lot! The best part though I was able to keep my function so I am not on a fluid restricted diet! Which if you know me at all you know I need my coffee everyday! It brings me to this moment! The moment I have been praying for and also dreading! Praying to get my life back, dreading because someone lost there life so I and others could continue on with theirs! I ask that you read my story think about organ donation either living or deceased! And you say a prayer for the person that that gave me my life back! Thank you for reading my story!
