Knute (Michael) Tonga

First post: Apr 14, 2022 Latest post: Jun 9, 2023
Knute suffered a stroke on April 1, 2022 in Layfayette.  The stroke was to the MCA artery on the left side of the brain and affected his right side. He has some movement of his right leg, not much in the right arm and mild right facial weakness.  He recognizes people and understands some things in conversation, but can't get the words out for speaking. This is called expressive aphasia. He is able to eat just fine.  Knute is currently in Austin, TX in a rehab hospital, where he will stay until May 2.  After his release he will be in a skilled nursing facility, Brookdale Lakeway in Austin for 4-6 weeks. He is not talking much but he is in good spirits & wants to get better. He can sing melodies (not right words) & play the harmonica, seems to bring him a lot of joy to be able to interact that way. We will keep this site up to date with that latest information as it comes in.  We would love you for you to comment and share so that we can read these to Knute.  Thank you to everyone who has reached out and helped in any way to this point, it is appreciated by his family. Visitors are encouraged and welcome.
