Kirstie (Phillips) Lebduska Kirstie's Wedding to Wigs

First post: Apr 27, 2022 Latest post: Oct 7, 2022
Welcome to Kirstie's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  As so many of you know, last month, March 2022, Kirstie's journey from "Wedding to Wigs" began.  On Thursday, March 24th, just as she was about to travel to Florida, she discovered a lump. Kirstie doing what she does so well went right to work in making appointments, and by Monday, March 28th had already had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy.  By the end of March, she received the news no one ever wants to hear - Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer.   In 8 short months, she's gone from the happiest day of her life to the worst.  If you know Kirstie, you know she was not going to sit idle waiting for appointments.   Despite so many of us wishing she was in Syracuse, we all knew the opportunities for treatment and let's face it, sunshine, were much better in California.  In just a few short days she met with two wonderful surgeons and two oncologists, ultimately choosing to treat with a young surgeon at City of Hope Cancer Institute in Los Angeles who is a triple negative breast cancer survivor who, as fate would have it, was a vascular surgeon in Syracuse, treated here and decided to switch her specialty to breast cancer and relocated to California.   She has a unique perspective as a patient who turned surgeon.  The treatment plan is 12 straight weeks of chemo with immunotherapy, a 2-3 week break followed 4 more rounds of intense chemo over the course of 8 weeks, then a month post-chemo undergo a double mastectomy, radiation and reconstruction.

There is a long road ahead, however, cancer should fear Kirstie, not the other way around.  She is determined, strong-willed and a fighter......not someone who backs down to a challenge - no matter the size of the challenge.

We appreciate your prayers, good wishes, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
