 Diagnosis

Recently, Kip was experiencing some pain in his right abdomen. We went to the doctor and blood tests were ordered and an ultrasound. That afternoon, Kip’s blood tests showed elevated liver numbers. The ultrasound confirmed that he had gallstones in his gall bladder but also showed lesions on his liver.

The next day, Kip had a CT scan which also showed lesions on his liver and a thickening in his esophagus. Kip was called by the general surgeon and was told he had liver cancer. We now know that this was a premature diagnosis.

A few days later, Kip then went to the St. Cloud Hospital and had an upper endoscopy, also known as EGD, a procedure in which a thin scope with a light and camera is used to look inside the upper digestive tract -- the esophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestine.

Today, we went to the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute Buffalo Hospital and met with a compassionate doctor of oncology.  We were told that Kip has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Kip will need a liver biopsy next to determine if he has cancer in his liver or not.  The oncologist gave us some “hope” in that he said that he can’t say there is cancer in the liver without doing biopsies first. We are also waiting to hear from Mayo Clinic for a possible consultation so we could do everything under one roof so to speak. Right now at the Buffalo Hospital there are basically three retired oncologist doctors covering for the full time oncologist doctor who recently left.

We need prayers for expediency in appointments being made so the doctors can come up with a specific treatment plan which will likely involve chemotherapy and/or radiation so we can start fighting this cancer.  We feel valuable time is ticking away and the waiting is so very difficult right now.

Please support my wonderful husband, Kip with your prayers and messages!  We appreciate all of your prayers and support!
