Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Kim was diagnosed with stage IIb invasive lobular EPR+ breast cancer on October 24, 2016.  This came as quite a surprise and we are thankful that due to family history she started early with regular mammograms which detected calcifications prompting further workup.  The type of breast cancer that she has does not form into a "mass" and is notorious for being very difficult to see on mammogram.  Her surgeon feels that likely it has been there even since her first mammogram in 2013 but was not visible.  Our plan for pre-surgery treatment includes chemotherapy for 5 months to reduce the size of the cancer (currently at 6cm) and hopefully clear any lymph nodes that may be affected. She had a bone scan and full body CT scans as part of the initial workup that were clear.   Late spring/early summer Kim will have double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery.  After surgery recovery,  she will go through radiation treatment for 6 weeks.
Even though this was certainly not part of our plan,  we know that it is part of God's plan and he will get us through this together with his help!
