Hi everyone!

My friend Natasha recommended the CaringBridge site to keep loved ones updated on my cancer journey. I'm going to see if it helps me share my cancer updates without having to repeat my story so much. That way we can talk about current events in both our lives and you can read my cancer updates here. Natasha will help provide updates for me when I am overwhelmed or too tired to keep up.

Here's a short backstory...

I've been fighting breast cancer since March, 2020 when I was diagnosed with Stage 3C triple-negative breast cancer. I was still being treated for my breast cancer when it spread to my skin. In July, 2021 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. That means the cancer spread beyond the breast area. In my case, it went to the regional lymph nodes and to my skin. Metastasis to the skin is uncommon - most breast cancer metastasis spread to organs, bones, or even the brain. There is no cure for metastatic breast cancer. I'll be on cancer treatment for the rest of my life - or until I decide to stop treatment.  My specific subtype of breast cancer is aggressive and finding an effective treatment seems to be a guessing game.

Metastatic breast cancer patients describe their cancer treatments as lines of treatment to describe how many different treatments they've been on as they fight to kill the cancer. Since I began metastatic treatment in August of 2021, I've been on 5 different lines of treatment. I'm currently on the 5th line of treatment and I'm getting Keytruda immunotherapy and Abraxane chemotherapy via infusion.
