Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
Dear Family & Friends:
I wish I could reach out to each of you to personally let you know of a recent change in my health. I have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and will be having surgery on Thursday, July 16th at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. The surgery will be followed by a series of heated intra peritoneal chemotherapy while in the hospital. They will also be doing additional pathology tests to further confirm the diagnosis.
Since March, I have felt fine but my clothes weren't fitting very well. I dismissed it as not watching what I was eating and not working out. I joined Anytime Fitness in May and after 6 weeks, there wasn't any change and I felt bloated and shortness of breath. An ultrasound and PET Scan showed fluid in my abdomen area. Over 8 liters of fluid (15 lbs) were removed with the test coming back as suspicious for mesothelioma. About 10 days later, another 6 liters of fluid was removed along with a biopsy. The tissue also tested as suspicious for mesothelioma. In preparation for the surgery, a CT Scan was done on my lungs which came back clear so that's some good news!
I am so thankful to have the love, support and encouragement of my husband, Dave and our kids, Derek, Amy and Evelyn; and Leisha and Josh. They will be keeping you informed while I'm in the hospital.
