Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. Please use this site for updates, well-wishes, and a place to stay connected to Kim's story. Because she is just beginning the fight of her life, we are trying to keep all pertinent info her so she can save her energy to get well and you can continue to be the loving, supporting friends and family she counts on dearly to kick this cancer to the curb!

Kim's story started pretty quickly and we are hoping ends just as quickly!  About three weeks ago, Kim wasn't feeling well. She'd just been battling a long cold on and off through the holidays, and wasn't having a great time recovering. Over the weekend of Jan 16-17, she started to feel very uncomfortable and bloated. She tried to make it until Monday, but called her doctor and ended up going in on January 18. At this appointment, her doctor found fluid in her abdomen, a condition called Ascites. Throughout the course of this week, Kim went in for more tests, finishing with a CT scan and paracentesis to test the fluid on Thursday. The drained the fluid from her, and it turned out it was almost 3L of fluid- no wonder she felt horrible. Kim and Jim waited on pins and needles over the weekend as they waited to get results the following week.
The next week, Kim's doctor called and they ordered a PET Scan and scheduled a consultation with a general oncologist at Parker Adventist, where Kim worked.
Kim had her PET scan on Thursday, Jan 21, and she and Jim met with a few different oncologists on Friday, Jan 22, and received the diagnosis of stage 3 ovarian cancer. Kim and Jim had a small family dinner that evening and started to break the news to family. Everyone has since bonded together to come up fighting! Kim has great doctors on her side, a fellow survivor in the family to inspire her, and countless well-wishes, supporters and prayers. She begins her journey to recovery this Wednesday, Feb 3, and we cannot wait to report back great news!
