Kevin has been living with type 1 diabetes for around 17 years. He will tell you it feels much longer. During his early years of diabetes he had many ups and downs and several bouts of uncontrolled diabetes. That all changed, though, when he started using an insulin pump. But even then, we knew the side effects to the body of long term diabetes and in 2018 it finally caught up to Kevin. 2018 is when we found out Kevin was suffering from Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. CKD caused from diabetes. He was able to hold it at bay for several years but recently it has worsened. He is now listed as ESRD. End Stage Renal Disease. This is where his Caring Bridge starts.... at end stage renal disease, starting dialysis this week and keeping hope alive for a double transplant. A pancreas and a kidney. 💚
