As you all know we have been seeing Doctors and having all kinds of tests done this whole summer. On July 30th Kevin was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. On August 8th we saw Dr. Elaraj at Northwestern and found out he has Medullary Thyroid Cancer, a rare form of thyroid cancer. The tumor is on his thyroid, has grown into his chest and is sitting on his heart and is wrapped around major blood vessels, nerves and his vocal chords. Also saw a thoracic surgeon and an ENT. Kevin will have 2 major surgeries to remove everything. The first surgery was on August 30th and was 11 1/2 hours long. He is doing really well - walking about 3 1/2 miles a day and his voice is almost back to normal. The second surgery is scheduled for October 30th and will not be as extensive.
