I've rewritten this over and over not sure what to say. I will try and keep everyone as updated as possible. To start out in November dad got pneumonia and was in the hospital for a couple days and came home on oxygen with end stage COPD. In December he had numerous scans done and they had found some masses in his lung and throat. A biopsy was done and it came back as Small Cell Carcinoma. Prognosis is not very good as it has spread to his bones but he is determined to fight this. On Monday he met with Dr Behrens and he was sent to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines to start chemo immediately. He was supposed to have the first round Monday night, but had some issues with his IV line and getting blood back out of it. Tuesday morning he had his port placed and his first round of chemo. He's been feeling pretty good and was able to eat good which has been a challenge here recently with the size of the tumor in his throat. He will have a second round of chemo tomorrow morning and will hopefully be coming home. He's very determined to fight this and would love to hear from you! We have all been passing around nasty colds at our house so we haven't been able to be in Des Moines with mom and dad but video chats have been a lifesaver! Hoping we beat it soon! Like I said before I will try and do weekly updates!
