So, I’m having plastic surgery and it’s not for my nose (ba-dum ching). But, seriously folks …
Over the summer I was diagnosed with very early breast cancer. Based on my history and other factors, everyone on my care team agrees it's a "no-brainer" to undergo a mastectomy and reconstruction. With bilateral surgery, the chances of cancer occurring in the right breast decrease from 67 percent to 2 percent. I’m not much of a gambler, but I like those odds.
That said, surgery is scheduled for October 4th. I’m planning to be in the hospital (or as Michael refers to it, “hotel”) for four or five days and then I’ll be recovering at home.
Many of you have asked how you can help. You’re awesome and you’re already helping by visiting this site and being a part of this online community. Feel free to post messages of support here.
For those of you who live nearby, if you click on the HELPFUL TASKS button below you can view our calendar. Since I won't be allowed to drive (or do much else) for 8+ weeks, there may be days when we'll need a hand getting Michael to and from school/activities or picking up groceries—especially in the first few weeks after surgery.
