Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
In the summer of 2015 Ken was diagnosed with lung cancer and with several tumors in his brain. He went through a regiment of chemotherapy and radiation as well as the cyber knife
procedure on the tumors in his brain. Over the last two years he continued to have frequent followup scans with results that were encouraging. Several weeks ago he began to experience balance issues, some hearing loss in one ear, difficulty swallowing and a few headaches. More recently confusion became pronounced. While he was not due for a brain scan until early January, we arranged for it to be completed last week. That showed that the cancer had moved to the lining of the brain. The team of doctors decided to begin radiation and prescribed a drug to help reduce the fluid buildup in his brain. He had 2 days of radiation and 1 day of the new drug, but his confusion became more pronounced so he was admitted to United Hospital in St. Paul on December 22. It has been difficult to determine if his issues are a result of the radiation, the new drug and/or the cancer. He has had various tests, scans and monitors of the brain to determine next steps in his care. We are hopeful he will be able to have a lumbar puncture on the 27th with the hope of determining the best procedure to reduce fluid buildup. We will know more shortly.
Your continued thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.
