Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated about Kennedy's surgeries and recovery in one place. We appreciate your support, words of hope and encouragement, and prayers. This is how it all started: Kennedy had some bleeding in December we wanted to check out. In January of this year, Kennedy had her first colonoscopy and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. In May, she went about three weeks with flu-like symptoms and by the time we got her second colonoscopy, she was in a full fledge flare up, very dehydrated and malnourished. This prompted her first hospital stay at Children's for 24 days this summer, beginning June 15th. After being on steroids and getting two Remicade infusions, (There's much more to the story, but too much to mention here.) she got out and seemed to be better. But, less than a month later, we saw signs of a flare up again, and on August 9th began our second hospital stay for 7 days. We got out Monday, August 15th, but found ourselves back four days later when Kennedy passed out at her Remicade infusion. August 22, she had her fourth procedure to check out her colon, a flex sig (similar to a colonoscopy), and the doctors discovered that her colon was worse. It just wasn't responding to the IV steroids or medicines. The doctors felt like her only option was surgery. The surgery she is having will take three separate surgeries to complete. I will keep people updated through this page. Thank you for visiting.
