Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement and most of all your prayers! Ken felt an enlarged lymph node on his neck 3 months ago. He happened to be in Dallas so he saw his family physician while there. He was told it was nothing to worry about and to see a doctor in Beaufort if it was still there in 3 months. That didn’t sit right with us so he went to a doctor here and got the same response. At the insistence of a good friend, Ken pressed for a biopsy. He was referred to an ENT and the biopsy was performed. The week before Christmas we got the call that the lymph node had cancer cells......Melanoma. Ken is seen regularly by a dermatologist and has never had Melanoma so it was shocking to hear it had already metastasized to his lymph nodes. The ENT referred us to MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) in Charleston . We met the doctor on Monday, Dec 23 and we really liked what he had to say. He will treat this aggressively and we have faith that Ken will beat this! The doctor did another biopsy of a spot on Ken’s head, just behind his ear, that he feels may be the primary melanoma. The next step is a PET Scan which he will have tomorrow, Dec. 31. We will know more once we get the results of that. Our prayer is that it hasn’t spread passed that one lymph node. We know he will have surgery to remove the lymph node and will have immunotherapy for a year. We will update as we know more. Thank you for visiting.
