Kendall Burgess

Kendall was admitted to the ICU at Piedmont Hospital on Monday, February 6th after experiencing trouble breathing following  a case of bronchitis. That same evening, her lungs begin to fail the critical job of expelling Carbon Dioxide and the incredible doctors decided to hook her up to an ECMO machine. This life saving device does the work of removing carbon dioxide and adding oxygen to the blood when the lungs cannot effectively manage that process. After 2 days under heavy sedation, she showed incredible signs of improvement and was woken up on Wednesday, February 8th to find her loving husband, Ben, by her side.... right where he had been since she arrived at the ER Monday morning. Under the watchful care of an incredible team of doctors, PA's, nurses and Physical Therapists, she continues to thrive. Tests results as to the cause of this lung failure have returned inconclusive so we continue to await answers while she works to heal and eventually remove the help of the ECMO machine. We know her friends and family have had countless questions so this site has been created as a way to keep everyone updated as we slowly get more answers and support her healing process.
