Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Keegan's story starts in Peoria IL we had taken him to the ER for a high fever and being very lethargic and pale. This was Sunday February 26th, 2017. They let us know immediately that Keegan was very ill and needed to get to Children's Hospital right away. We first heard the word leukemia from the ER Doctor at Methodist hospital after Keegan's blood test results came back. He had a white blood cell count of around 55,000 and a red blood cell count of about 4-5. We got into treatment at children's hospital right away and he started getting red blood and platelet transfusions to get him ready for treatment, whether we chose to stay in Peoria for treatment or travel to Memphis TN for treatment. We obviously wanted the best treatment possible for Keegan and so we chose to travel to Memphis. Keegan and I traveled by ambulance while his dad drove behind us so that he could be here also but also that we could have a means of transportation while we are here. Once we were here we continued blood and platelet transfusions to get Keegan's hemoglobin levels up so that he could go into surgery to have a chest wall port placed, a spinal tap, a bone marrow biopsy, and his first round of chemo into his spinal fluid because that is very very important. He had his surgery on Wednesday March 1st, 2017 and everything went very well. Fortunately his tests came back negative for cancer cells in his spinal fluid, but he will still receive periodic chemo treatments into his spinal fluid. He received his first chemo treatments thru his chest port last night 3/2/2017 and has been doing well. We should be getting moved out of isolation to outpatient this weekend if all continues to go well. Thanks everyone for your prayers and well wishes we will keep updating whenever we can, I can't promise regularity because life is just a bit crazy right now!
