Kay Abney

Kay became very ill and was admitted to Piedmont Regional Hospital in Athens GA June 7, 2017.  It was clear she was unable to be dismissed to go home and was transferred instead to The Oaks in Athens for rehab.  


While at the Oaks,Kay participated in physical, occupational, speech and swallow rehabs.  Eating had been a problem since admission to hospital.  The Oaks achieved maximum  performance with Kay and another alternative was chosen for her continued care.  Willow Brook Wellness Center in Commerce, GA was selected. 


Willow Brook Wellness Center's  care plan was from 7-10 days, which we were advised on admission.  On July 25, 2017, We learned Kay would be dismissed from Willow Brook that Thursday.


Upon dismissal from Willow Brook,Kay was transferred  Thursday, July 27, 2017  to Emory University Hospital and remains there today, August 14, 2017.  She has been undergoing multiple tests, receiving very good care, and has shown marked signs of cognitive and eating improvement for which we are well pleased.  Sherrill has been by her side the entire time.  There have been many challenges along the way, but we believe she has "turned the corner."  However, she still has a long way to go to be self-sufficient again.  Perhaps physical therapy can now be successful since she is now eating, building strength and stamina.  At this juncture, we are unsure how long she will remain at Emory and where she will go from there.
