On Oct. 16, I went into the ER with stomach pains. After several cat scans and ultrasounds, a mass was found on my right fallopian tube. I had surgery the same day to remove the mass and tube. Surgery went well and I was discharged the same day.
The mass plus additional biopsies were sent off to pathology. The following week I went in for a post-op to discuss the pathology report. To my shock as well as the doctor's, the results came back as ovarian cancer. No one can ever prepare you for hearing those words.
The following week was a complete blur of emotions, stress and disbelief. I saw a specialist both in Portland and Seattle. I ultimately decided to move forward with a doctor in the Gynecological Oncology group at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
I go in for surgery on Nov. 12 and will begin chemo treatments shortly after. This is the beginning of the battle but I am prepared to fight.
I am so fortunate to have an army standing with me through this. My family, friends and colleagues are an incredible source of support. Thank you all so much for the love, prayers, positive energy and healing power.
