Katrina Semmer

Hello everyone, as many of you may know my sister Katrina was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cacncer on Monday.  It quickly spread to her bones, liver, lymphnodes, and pelvic area. Her tumor on her ovary  doubled in size in 6 days so it is now 15cm x 8cm. She just finished up her 4th fluid drain on her lungs and abdomen and will finish her 1st round of chemo tonight. Dr. Tan started her on an aggressive chemo and after 2-3 rounds they will be doing another PET scan to see if the chemo is working. It sounds like she will be here at Mercy in coon rapids until sometime next week. The doctors want to make sure she is comfortable and the meds and breathing are all under control before they send her home.
Katrina does have a rare form of ovarian cancer and as soon as we can get into the mayo in Rochester she will be getting a second opinion from the doctors there. 


She was in A LOT of pain when we got here on Monday so they mixed her a good cocktail of drugs to make her feel more comfortable, which made her very loopy and out of it. Yesterday afternoon we started seeing signs of our sassy Katrina and its continuing today.


It is going to be a long road ahead of us, but we are all ready to fight this cancers ass!! Katrina is a very strong and determined woman. Once she sets her mind to something, that's it! We have a very strong, close, loving, and supportive family and WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS.
