Katie has Scoliosis which is a Curvture of the spine. She has an S curve of  Thoriac (top) 49% and Lumbar 22%. She will undergo an 8 hour operation on the 15th August St George's London,  called a Vertebral Bone Teether. Unlike the usual fusion, this is new procedure with only 12 being performed in the uk so far. A flexible tether/cord  is attached to each Vertebra and then pulled taut. The Teether will continue to straighten the spine as katie grows.
The operation is done through the ribs with 2 incisions and they have to deflate the lung.
She will be in ICU for a night and in hospital for a week all being well. She will be recovering for 6 weeks with no sports for 3 months while the back strengthens.
My Baby is strong and coping remarkably well all things considered
