On August 23, 2016 I went in for my annual mammogram. On September 1, 2016 I found out I had breast cancer, in my left breast. Final results showed I had stage 1 metaplastic DCIS. During the two weeks between these dates I had 2 more mammograms, 2 ultra sounds, 1 fine needle biopsy (FNA - which hurt like F'n hell), and 1 core biopsy (I thought apple core, it's more like the head of a dulled sharpie). I cried, I hoped, but somehow I knew this was cancer. I let a close group of family, friends, and coworkers know, deciding pretty much THEN that cancer would no longer be whispered or not spoken about. I refused to let fear drive this disease or my eventual conquering of it. The first email I sent to said family and friends pretty much outlines my mindset - this will NOT be a secret. I'm going to Pink Lotus Breast Center and being treated by Dr. Kristi Funk and her team. They have already been amazing. My Oncologist is Dr. Omid Shay at Wellness Oncology - his team and office are so warm and sweet. I'm in great hands across the board.
