No Retreat No Surrender my journey with Glioblastoma!
By Kathy Scott - 37 minutes ago
On Dec 30th, 2015 life went form everyday normal to being diagnosed with a brain tumor. My new journey has started with a confirmed diagnosis of a Glioblastoma Stage 4 brain tumor. I feel so Blessed by God that the tumor was revealed in the way he did at my chiropractor appt that evening. Yes, my chiropractor did nothing wrong but may have saved my life with the minor adjustment that caused my tumor to be revealed. I thought I might be having a stroke until I went to the ER that evening & an evaluation from Northwestern stroke specialist ruled out a stroke. Then I had a CT scan with contrast that revealed a brain tumor. Not what I was expecting to hear nor could I actually comprehend at the moment. I had an amazing neurosurgeon (Dr. Ruge) who quickly operated on Jan 6th, 2016 to remove the 1.8 cm size tumor that was more like a grape/walnut size instead of a softball size when most are found with severe brain damage! Yes, God is good in finding this tumor so small. Also, Dr. Ruge said in all his years of practice he has never seen a Glioblastoma found so small & presented with such quick acting symptoms. It was in the right frontal lobe of the motor skills cortex of my brain. As he said it's the worse of the worse brain tumors but with it found so small, and being younger than most with this condition, my odds are greatly improved for longevity of life! Praise the Lord! My road is long & winding going forward with aggressive radiation & chemo treatments to begin very soon. First staples need to be removed on the 25th, then a CT mapping scan to plot the bullseye area of my brain to be targeted for the radiation dosages. Never understood how much planning needs to be done by the neuro oncologist & radiation oncologist team needs to fiercely fight this aggressive cancer! I praise God daily for orchestrating the most amazing, quick acting team to be working under from the neurosurgeon, neuro & radiation onocoligist team! I also spent 8 days in inpatient PT, OT & ST rehab which helped to regain loss left side strength & cognitive skills again. Going forward I will be posting my journey through this page instead of my FB page. Please feel free to share this page & comment anytime. I love hearing from everyone, each of you have already brought so much encouragement, motivation, blessings & just feeling so prayed & loved for by everyone! Together we will fight this fierce fight I have ahead of me to beat this Glioblastoma!
Currently there is a GoFundMe account set-up by my brother-in-law (Bill Petrakis) to help offset medical and living expenses. If interested in helping, please click on this link - https://www.gofundme.com/KWScott.
