Kathy Schaack

Welcome to Kathy's CaringBridge website.   As most of you know, this has been a long battle since Kathy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor back in August of 2015.  At that time she was only given a 6-12 month prognosis.  Well, in typical Kathy fashion, that was not going to do.  She decided to take on her cancer with an attitude of strength, courage, and the daily mantra of thanking God for each day.  She has spent the last year and a half loving on friends and family while remaining as active as possible in her normal daily routine.  She has been enjoying interacting with her grandkids and watching their plays and sports activities.  Sunday night dinners have always been a tradition in the Schaack family, and we have never skipped a beat.  This has been our time to come together to share fun stories, laugh, and connect, all over a yummy meal. Kathy always made the best meals, so it has been hard to fill her shoes! 
Her declining vision has been one struggle that she has had to live with the last couple years.   She handled it with such grace as Will would hold her hand and lovingly guiding her through each day.  It has been so beautiful to see such true love in action. 
Within the last several months a walker became necessary and then the wheel chair.  All the while, Kathy's attitude has been so positive and lovely.  Unfortunately, a lot has changed in the last few weeks that made it very clear that hospice was needed.  A wonderful group of hospice caretakers are now on hand to offer support, care, and comfort.  At this point Kathy's comfort is top priority.  
Mike and I will do our best to keep you up on how Kathy is doing.  We are so thankful for all of the love and support so many of you have offered up throughout this difficult time.  You have no idea how much your encouragement has meant to us all.
