Kathy's story begins about one week ago when she noticed weakness in her legs.  Although she had sinus surgery earlier this summer, and more recently pneumonia, this seemed to be unrelated.  She was admitted to Meriter Hospital, and as the weakness became inability to move legs, arms and ultimately breathing muscles, she was moved to the ICU and placed on a ventilator.  Kathy is fairly heavily sedated but nods to yes/no questions and simple requests. She is still the Kathy we all know and love!

Results of diagnostic tests reveal a neuromuscular disease (most likely, but not confirmed) Myasthenia Gravis as the cause of her symptoms.  Treatment with IV medications has been initiated and progress toward independent breathing will allow her to be off the ventilator (and the miserable ET tube removed).  Then the long road to regaining muscle function will begin. Please join family and friends throughout Wisconsin and  beyond in praying for Kathy.  Christ Presbyterian Church where she serves as music director and Edgewood College where she is a vocal music professor are especially missing her presence.    We are grateful for the love, concern and prayers that so many from her music world have expressed.
