Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Tuesday Nov 17th, Kathryn was out walking her dog, Lexi.  Unfortunately Lexi decided  to investigate the other dog walking towards them with a neighbor from the other direction. Lexi pulled on the leash and Kathryn lost her balance and fell to the ground. The neighbor quickly returned her own dog to her own house, brought her car to Kathryn, helped her get into the car, and drove her back home.  Kathryn realized almost at once that it had been a serious fall and that she was going to need some help.

Kathryn called the ambulance which took her to Tucson Medical Center ER.  TMC admitted her later that evening with 2 fractures in her pelvic bone, 2 broken ribs and a broken clavicle, all on her left side.  She is in quite a bit of pain and even the simplest of movements feel excruciating to her.

Thursday Nov 19th, Kathryn  made tremendous progress in the hospital and was even able to stand with a little help from her PT staff.  The TMC staff was super nice and worked hard to keep her comfortable. On Thursday night, she was discharged to the Encompass Health Northwest facility and has begun her journey to recover and get back to her normal independent and lively self.

Friday Nov 20th, her first day at Encompass was a challenge. Kathryn is a strong independent woman but currently she is not only trying to recover, learn how to work with her body in its current condition but she is also trying to learn how to ask and accept help from her caregivers.

Her daughter, Kathy, was able to be by her side the majority of her TMC stay but there are no visitors allowed in her new facility which presents additional challenges for the family and Kathryn.

Thank you again for your kind words of support for Kathryn as she powers through her recovery.  Please leave her your words of encouragement and well wishes to remind her she's not alone.  You may also reach out to her daughter, Kathy at 602-677-2734.
