Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

This situation  seems to have been caused by a fall, when Kathleen tripped and hit her head. In addition to the expected pain, after a week, Kathleen started to experience numbness in her hands, right leg and torso. She had symptoms of a whiplash as well. She decided it was significant enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room. After a lengthy evaluation, they admitted her and continued with more tests to determine the cause of the swelling and inflammation along her spinal cord, just below her neck.

After extensive testing, scans, X-rays, spinal tap, and more, the doctors felt an operation to release pressure on her spinal cord was called for. They fused several vertebrae in a 3 hour operation. The docs felt that they had accomplished the goal of reducing pressure, and we moved to the recuperation and rehab phase.
