Hello Friends and Family! On 10/25/17, I was stunned to learn that I have breast cancer. I had found a sensitive lump two days earlier which was most likely a cyst (what a relief!), but a precautionary biopsy revealed otherwise (what????). Less then three weeks later, on 11/14, I started chemotherapy.
The bad news: I have cancer! A fear that I have carried with me for 40 years has come true. I won't be doing the half iron man triathlon for which I am registered on 6/10/18. I will be going through chemo for 5 months and will lose my hair. Surgery and reconstruction will follow. In 2017, I completed four 5K races, two 10K races, a 10 mile race and seven triathlons. Life as I know it for the next year will be very different.
The good news: Stage 2, Estrogen positive (less aggressive), and totally curable and treatable. We caught it early. I have a wonderful husband, amazing friends and caring family that have already been overwhelmingly kind, generous and supportive. I am strong and determined.
I will beat this, but I know the journey will have plenty of ups and downs. My hope and plan is to be bold and brave. I look forward to sharing updates here and welcome your thoughts.
