Welcome to the Caring Bridge Site for Kathie Cowles!

Kathie has allowed us to tell her story on this site to update her family, friends and support group.  We are all wanting to know how she is doing in hopes of supporting her with encouragement, acts of service and prayer.

In May, Kathie was diagnosed with Neuro Endocrine Cancer, a rare cancer that is non-organ specific.  In other words, the cancer can begin most anywhere. Her care team is from Northwestern Medicine and has made the recommendation of 6 cycles of Chemotherapy.  IN following their recommendations, Kathie undergoes 3 days of IV Infusion Chemotherapy every 3 weeks.  She completed her second round of therapy 7-26-18.  Kath would say that fatigue is her biggest side-effect so far!  To Fight her fatigue, Kathie is walking briskly for 20 min daily.  This recommendation came from her Son-in-law, Steven, who is a Cancer survivor himself!!  (Samantha and Steven were married July 21, 2018!)  Kathie's next treatments begin 8-14-18!! She will then help Lane return to school at Grand Valley State University for his Junior year...You go Lane!!

Since Kathie's diagnosis, her family has been praying through the following  scripture verses:

Deuteronomy 31:6 (the Message)
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be "intimidated by the Cancer", for the Lord your God, Kath, strides before you and will never leave your side"

Romans 15:13
"May the God of HOPE fill (KATHIE) with all joy and peace as she trusts in you, so that (KATHIE) may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Praying:
* For Kathie to continue to weather each chemo cycle as she has, maintain her weight and remain infection free.
* Kathie will become Cancer free after 6 cycles of chemotherapy.
* Strength and endurance to continue her role at Mindseye Research.
* Joy and Peace as she trusts in her Lord.
* Samantha, Steven and Lane to stand firm in their unwavering Hope in the Lord's ability to heal Kathie.

We are setting up a meal rotation so that Kathie can use her energy to complete the tasks before her; continue to work and that her body can remain infection free so as to "Fight the good fight" :

Phillippians 3:13-14
I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Thank you for joining Kathie in this journey.

For those who are interested, we have added a link for meals under the Ways to Help tab.
