Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.
Karla was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2022 after an asymmetry was observed on her annual mammogram results. She is being treated at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA. It is Stage 3 (spread to lymph nodes) and is being treated most aggressively (as if it were triple negative) even though it is technically estrogen receptor positive (very low positive at only 5%). Unfortunately, they tell her that this is a rare bucket to fall into and many characteristics of her cancer are perplexing. She underwent 3 surgeries in the summer of 2022, and endured 2 port placements, as the first catheter migrated out of place causing her a great deal of neck pain. Additionally, she will have a total of 20+ weeks of chemotherapy (A/C + T) followed by 6 weeks of daily radiation (M-F). Chemotherapy should wrap up on Ground Hog Day, 2/2/2023. And, the entire treatment plan should be completed by Easter 2023.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting and being part of our journey!
