As many of you know I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer on 9/25/2018.  Oh how your life can change overnight!   I can’t express my appreciation for the overall support from so many of you, especially my family and close friends. My husband has been at my side through every appointment and every decision and I am so grateful for that! ❤️

I have decided to post updates and journal entries on here so my family and myself don’t get overwhelmed with updating everyone throughout my journey.

A quick overview of my journey to this point:

I woke up on Monday 9/17 with terrible pain in my left breast.  Soon after I felt a large lump.  My husband encouraged me to go and see someone but I was very hesitant knowing I had a clean mammogram (get your mammograms ladies!) just this past April.

I decided to go in and get a mammogram, and after an ultrasound as well as a biopsy we were told that I had breast cancer.  I had a lumpectomy on 10/16  andI was diagnosed  with triple negative breast cancer stage IIa, pleomorphic invasive lobular carcinoma.  The good news is after surgery I had clear margins and no lymph node involvement. However, since I have triple negative BC and the diagnoses of P-ILC , both very aggressive types of cancer,  I still need to have chemo for 6 months and possibly radiation.

I will know more when I get the results from genetic testing and if I carry the BRAC1 or BRAC 2 gene.  If that comes back positive further decisions will have to be made. I have a minor surgery on Tuesday Nov 6 to insert my chemo port and chemo will start Nov 14.  So as we say in the stokes household BRING IT ON 💪. #stokesstrong.
