Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Karen Snider. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on her stroke rehab journey, all in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting! -Al (Doc) Snider, Kris Hintz

Karen and Al (Doc) Snider were on their way to a performance of "The Merry Widow" at Kravitz Performing Arts Center in West Palm Beach on Saturday, March 26, 2022, to enjoy the wonderful talents of their neighbor, and world-renowned opera soprano Jennifer Rowley (Diaz) in the starring role. Just before the performance began, Karen experienced a hemorrhagic stroke, driven by a sudden spike in blood pressure (she normally does not have high blood pressure), causing a ruptured blood vessel that "bleeds" into the surrounding brain.

Karen was transported immediately to St. Mary's Level One Trauma Center, fortuitously around the corner,  affiliated with the Palm Beach Neuroscience Institute. If you have to have a stroke, this is a good place to be, with time of the essence! The medical professionals quickly got her blood pressure down to normal with IV BP meds; two CT-scans and an MRI showed her "bleed" was stopped by this quick action. Karen was admitted to the ICU and after a few days of evaluation, was accepted to the in-patient acute rehabilitation program .

Karen officially began this program Monday, April 4, and is expected to be there for 14-17 days. Doc and Kris are taking turns in the “one visitor per day” process. It is great to be able to sit in on her OT and PT sessions first hand. Karen gets extremely fatigued (common for stroke) but she is a fighter.
