Welcome to Karen’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. On Monday, January 7th Karen was taken to the hospital because she was feeling really unwell and thought she had the flu. SouthSide Regional Medical Center did some preliminary blood work and her counts came back highly concerning. She had two infusions of blood and platelets they decided to do a bone marrow biopsy. An hour after the biopsy the doctors came back to let her know that she had advanced leukemia. Karen was immediately transferred to VCU Health System and is now under the care of their oncology team.
We will use this site to help keep everyone informed about Karen’s Treatment and ongoing journey. Visitors can visit her at the VCU Health System Critical Care Hospital, 2nd Floor, Room 158. Please do not visit if you have been sick, feeling under the weather, have been around other's who are sick or have allergies. Taking extra precautions will ensure Karen remains safe.
