My journey started in August 2018. A colonoscopy revealed a suspicious polyp which led to a biopsy and MRI. I officially found out that I had rectal cancer on September 5, 2018. Since then it's been a whirlwind of doctor appointments, second opinions, consultations and some interesting diet changes. We've decided the Froedtert team has the best treatment plan to hopefully give me the best outcome. They are treating to cure! The first phase will be chemo, the second phase will be a radiation/chemo combo and the third phase will be surgery. Due to the location of my cancer, the surgery part could be very tricky. There is a small chance that I could have a "total response" to the first two phases of treatment which means the surgery wouldn't be necessary. That's what we are hoping for! As I continue to go through this process, I'll keep everyone updated here with my progress on beating this!!
We are so grateful for all of our family, friends, and co-workers who have already provided so much love and support. The words of encouragement and hope, the gifts, the food, the prayers, the hugs are all so appreciated. Not sure what we would do without all of you.....THANK YOU!!
