Hello all.  This is my attempt to document Karen's journey through metastatic breast cancer treatment.  It all began in early October 2017 when she discovered a lump in her right breast.  After a visit to her primary care physician, a mammogram, an ultrasound and two biopsies, she was told that she did indeed have breast cancer.  The right side was definite and the left side had some calcification ( a pre-cancer situation).  The next couple of weeks were consumed with more tests (brain MRI, bone scan, multiple CT scans) to determine if was contained or not.  Scans revealed that her brain, bones and most of her other organs were not effected, but it had spread to her liver.  She will need a liver biopsy next week to get a better understanding of the involvement.  Doctors at MGH are very optimistic and have had great results with the treatment plan they are recommending for us.
As overwhelming as this news is about her health, it is nothing compared with the outpouring of love and concern , best wishes and prayers that everyone has sent our way.  We really appreciate it.
I'll do my best to keep you all updated with her progress.
